Quiz 1
Project 1 - FOTO 1140 Capture five images showing RULE OF 3RDS.
Be creative! The requirements for this exercise are pretty straightforward. After reviewing the material presented you should have a solid idea of Rule of 3rds. Do not put the focal point dead center in the photograph. Intentionally place the focal point of your image in a rule of 3rds position. You may need to shoot a lot of images to get 5 good, examples. Breaking rules are good too but this project is about learning the rules.
1) All project images must be submitted in an album labeled Project #1 to your personal Flickr account by the appropriate due date & to the Google Team Drive Jr Turn in Folder.
Projects need to be uploaded to the Google Team Drive Jr Turn in Folder.
File Named--> Lastname-P1-1 Example DiMasso-P1-1 Order P1-1 as your best & P1-5 as the one you like the least
2) Then upload all project images to our FOTO 1140 class Goog;e Drive Folder
Please check out this online gallery of some inspiration and examples on Flickr
On each Flicker image uploaded, document the following (type it under each pic you upload)
-Camera used, Focal length, ISO Shutter speed, Aperture setting, Date the image was taken, Time of the day when the image was captured & the description of what your intent was (what were you trying to capture and why)

Learning Objectives for Chapter 5
Term Flash Cards Wk 4
Read the text, practice on the ‘Term Flashcards’ to review the reading and watch the video lectures/links. There is no lecture review sheet this week. Enjoy.
Project 2
Capture five images showing a shallow depth of field. Which means one thing (or even part of one thing) is in focus and everything else is blurry. Use this technique wisely. Choose your subjects carefully. Close-ups help this too! Be creative! Tips: Use the longest focal length, the smallest f/stop (like f/2.8-f/4), and get as close to your subject as possible.
Projects need to be uploaded to the Google Team Drive Jr Turn in Folder.
File Named--> Lastname-P2-1 Example DiMasso-P2-1 Order P2-1 as your best & P2-5 as the one you like the least
TIPS:
Choose a fast f/stop (as low a number your lens will allow from f/1.2 to f/4 - the lower the better)
Choose a long focal length if you have a zoom or a long prime lens (the longer the better)
Get close to your subject (remember the video from Week 2) - as close as possible...fill your frame
Otherwise, choose your portrait icon (even if you are not shooting a portrait) OR if you are really really close to your subject choose the flower icon which toggles any macro feature your camera may have - check your manual. Choose a long focal length if you have a zoom or a long prime lens (the longer the better) Get close to your subject (remember the video from Week 2) - as close as possible...fill your frame
Limitations:
You can crop, + or - exposure, white balance, and other adjustments needes EXCEPT for Sharpening & Blurring

Article on Abstract photography
Project 4 due by 11:59pm on Sunday
Capture five abstract images. Images need to be gray balanced and sharpened. Abstract photography is a means of depicting a visual image that does not have an immediate association with the object world. An abstract photograph may isolate a fragment of a natural scene in order to remove its inherent context from the viewer. Find interesting textures, patterns, designs, repetition, etc. They can be close up but they can be about big scenes too. Shoot as many as you need to get 5 good ones that you think are interesting. Choose your best 5 images. Emphasis Space Pattern Texture Unity Color Balance Line Movement Form Rhythm Value Contrast Shape
